Names and insturments?
Yo Paul! the band has always been and probably will
always be:
brendan - vocals
matt - guitar
trevor - bass
edson - drums
How did you get to know eachother?
the band started when brendan, edson and myself (matt)
all met in highschool and skated together and shit.
then we were in this other band but we wanted to start
a fast hardcore band thats sounded like charles
bronson and mk ultra but with militant straight edge
lyrics. it was a good idea then and i think it still
is. even though we dont sound like those bands anymore
really.
What do you try to get across in your songs?
well basically everyone always asks us if our song
lyrics are serious. especially ones like "X If being
negative is wrong i dont want to be right X" where we
sing about killing kids that smoke and shit. well,
none of us have ever killed anyone but we hate kids
that fuckin smoke cigarettes in our face, and we sure
as hell would like to kill them some day. so to sum
it up were just trying to sing about straight edge and
how much we can eat.
Why do you do this?
The same reason i hope everyone else in a band does,
because its fuckin fun as hell! weve played shows
everywhere from new bedford to albany to pennsylvania
and everywhere we go we always meet fuckin awesome
kids. its fun to hang out with kids that even though
they may live in a different town or state you know
you have something in common with them because you
both love hardcore music. just keep it fun!
Influences gotta have 'em?
ok so like i said before on our very first 2 tape
demos (which thankfully we only made like 5 of them
each) we were a total CB and MK ULTRA rip off band.
then somewhere in between the first 2 demos and the
official demo "the youth is out there" our sound
matured a little i guess you could say. and now on
the beaten straight 7" and upcoming split 7" with self
defense i dont even know what the fuck we sound like
anymore.
but our influences range from early 80s hardcore like
minor threat, youth brigade, LARM!, to late 80s youth
crew shit like straight ahead to present day bands
like tear it up. all those influences our music and
attitude. its funny because in the van on the way to
shows we even rock ACDC, Danzig and Guns n Roses. also
brendan and i fully support Andrew WK bringing rock
and roll back to the mainstream. let it be known
The song "Revenge Of The Hardcore Nerds," what is
the motive behind that?
ok, this song has some sort of weird controversy
around it, or so ive gathered from a few kids. the
song is not bashing or making fun of nerdy kids in the
scene. the song is saying all those kids that stand
in the back, take pictures, set up shows, write in
zines, run record labels etc etc are the fuckin kids
that keep this scene strong. a lot of times the kids
moshing their faces off up front dont do half the shit
that the kid watching the door in the back will do to
support the hardcore scene. so thats all there is to
that.
What have you accomplished so far?
Im definitely proud of how far this band has come in
its 2 years or so of existance. yeah we got off to a
slow start and played really bad at our early shows,
but who gives a fuck, we had a shitload of fun!
we've self recorded our own demo and 7", the 7" was
put out by our friend john from NY on my trust
records. we then just recorded our side of a split 7"
at our friend greg's studio in CT, and that record
will be out soon. and no we are writing brand new
songs hopefully for an upcoming 10" or LP if we can
find someone to put it out for us. so im definitely
happy with that so far. we also are touring the
entire country for 3+ weeks with THINK I CARE this
august and i couldnt be more fucking excited about
that!!
What do you want to accomplish?
i hope to be able to keep having fun with this band
and always strive to write better music but keep it
fuckin fast! i also hope we can release more records
(so if anyone out there has a shit load of money to
toss up in the air by putting out our new songs get in
touch), play a lot more shows and fuckin tour!!
Are you hardliners or peaceful kids?
i kinda touched on this above. if anyone has ever
talked to us at a show you will know that we are
really nice guys. yeah we have "militant" or
"hardline" straight edge lyrics but chances are if
youre not : blowing smoke in my face, driving drunk,
or acting like a complete fucked up fool than youll be
fine and cool to talk to.
Do you try to preach sXe ideas at shows or just
play?
well, the few times that ive grabbed the mic while we
were playing it usually ended up in some really bad
attempt to be funny, and then no one laughed, and then
after the show brendan would be like yo man what the
fuck was that all about? so i try not to talk much...
but when brendan yells out stupid shit in between
songs usually its just to be funny or to get a
reaction out of people. who knows if it works or
not....
Any recordings done yet?
Yup...
CD demo (out of print)
beaten straight 7" (email xalfredx@aol.com to order
one)
oh and always check our website (xfilesx.cjb.net)
because whenever we record new shit we always put
songs from it on there.
Any plans for further recordings?
split 7" with self defense.
and hopefully this summer a 10" or LP out in time for
tour.
How do the local kids treat you?
man, new bedford is the fuckin shit! we love all the
kids here. i just wanna say whats up to all the cool
kids in the action taken, POLICE BEAT, RnR, Say
Goodbye and all the other NB kids and bands that have
always kept new bedford hardcore alive.
Have you ever had any big fights at shows?
no one has ever fought while we were playing. other
than one time at a show in CT our friend Tim wrestled
with brendan during our set. if you didnt know they
were friends it might have looked like a fight.
we fight amongst eachother on the way to shows a lot.
usually because edson forgot to bring something or
because trevor is screaming something in my face while
im trying to give edson directions.
Tell me a funny story....?
Hmmmmmm let me see......
when we played the halloween show in winchendon last
year brendan smashed a toilet bowl on the floor after
the first song. we put a chocolate bar in the toilet
on purpose to look like a shit and brendan grabbed it
and ate it. shawn , the guitar player for think i
care, thought it was a real shit and ran outside and
threw up. thats the best i could do!
Have you ever had any bad injuries from moshing at a
show?
Ummmm nothing too bad. at the second edge day show
some dude landed on my fucking head after stage
diving. i walked around confused for a minute or 2 but
i was fine. brendan fucked up his finger by smashing
that toilet on himself at the halloween show . thats
all i can think ok.
Favorite horror movie? Why?
im not big into horror movies but the best ive ever
seen was Deadalive the unrated version. theres just
nothing in that movie that they didnt do. theres even
a fucking intestine that chases people around and
chokes them. great movie!
That's it, thanks... last words?
great questions, great site!!! keep it going and keep
it fun!!!
